Black Hearts (…the Earth is not round)

It’s hard to describe the mixture of feelings awakened by Bretislav Rychliks’ movie “Black Hearts (…the Earth is not round)”. This documentary sweeps us through the lives of four Gypsy families from different backgrounds: Hungary, Poland, Czech Republic and Slovakia, some in utter poverty, others surrounded by riches, giving a glimpse of their way of live, full of energy, music, love and contradictions. One of the most crucial things I could not understand in this movie is how does the wildly gesticulated faith in the Christian God of some people relate itself to breaking one of the ten commandments that should, at least in theory, forbade them for stealing! It was shocking to see how tenderly they cared for a stolen(!) statue of Virgin Mary
But… who am I to judge. After all, “if it disturbs you, it’s art”.
